Service description
An orthodontist is a dentist who specializes in straightening teeth and problems that cause teeth to be misaligned and misaligned. They use plastic wire plates and metal plates that are glued to the teeth to move the teeth in the right direction.
Do I need orthodontics?
If your teeth are clearly in the wrong position, have gaps, teeth do not close completely, jaw pain during chewing then you should consult a dentist who will explain if orthodontics is a possible solution for you.
I am 45 years old! Can I put wires at this age?
YES! Orthodontics is applied at any age. The only difference is that the duration of treatment lasts longer in adults than in children. Also, since jaw development occurs only during a short period of time, orthodontic treatments are limited to adults, so it is advisable that problems that can be solved with “wire” orthodontics be treated at an early age as the jaw is still developing. and there is a possibility that its development is directed in the right way by the orthodontist.
Removable dental apparatus
Can I put the wire only on the lower teeth?
In rare cases the dentist can place wires on only one jaw. The cause is often the patient’s request for aesthetic or financial reasons. However in most cases the orthodontic appliance MUST be placed in both jaws to have an effective and fast treatment.
Do wires cause pain?
At first the cameras are relatively annoying, it takes time to get used to the lips and tongue with the camera. Once a month when the wire is changed you may feel temporary pain which is normal for a day or two. IF THE PAIN CONTINUES EVEN AFTER TWO DAYS YOU SHOULD NOTIFY THE DENTIST IMMEDIATELY.
Does this treatment damage the teeth?
Yes. in case you do not show care with oral hygiene and do not follow the instructions given by the dentist the teeth may decay. Poor hygiene can also cause white spots on the teeth after the removal of wires which may be aesthetically unacceptable. To avoid these problems we advise that teeth cleaning be performed every four months and strict adherence to oral hygiene instructions at home by our dentists.
What are invisible apparatus?
Invisalign® are plastic plates used to guide teeth and are the most aesthetic orthodontic appliances available today. However, their application is limited to relatively simple cases. For other treatments braces and wires may be necessary.
Porcelain brackets vs Metal
Porcelain or metal brackets?
Brackets are the plates that hold the wire in place and stay on the teeth until the end of the treatment. They can be metal or porcelain. Porcelain brackets are chosen for aesthetic reasons and cost relatively more than metal ones.
If aesthetics is an important factor for you, we suggest placing porcelain brackets on the upper teeth and metal ones on the lower teeth. Although porcelain brackets are aesthetically more acceptable, they are stronger (more rigid) than enamel and can damage it when rubbed against teeth. Metal brackets on the other hand are softer (less rigid) and cause less trauma to the teeth when rubbed with them.
How is the treatment done?
First a general consultation is done where the problem is analyzed and then the treatment that suits you or your child best is decided. The graphs required for this examination are:
- Panoramic Graphics,
- Cephalometric graph,
- Alginate mass for plaster models.
After the treatment is decided, the orthodontist can choose to start the treatment with removable plastic plates and then with metal plates and wires which remain glued to the teeth until the end of the treatment. The term removable apparatus refers to removable plastic plates that can be removed while brushing teeth, while metal ones are called fix apparatus because they stay glued to the teeth until the end of the treatment. During the treatment it is necessary to visit the orthodontist at least once a month to tighten the device, to change the wire or just to check the iron of the treatment.
